Thing 11. e-books and e-audio

ACTIVITY

        1. Download an e-book from Overdrive.
        2. Download an e-audio title from Bolinda.
        3. Download an e-audio title from OneClickdigital.
          Please Note : OneClickdigital audio books cannot be downloaded to staff PCs – a laptop will be circulated for staff to practice with instead.
        4. Read/Listen to a few pages of each and write about the electronic reading experience in your blog. Tell us about whether you found it easy/hard to download an e-book/e-audio book. Comment on which platform was most straightforward and how the others might be improved. 

If you don’t have an e-book reader, a library device will be made available for circulation across the branches.

OVERDRIVE

  • Login to Brushtail and read the getting started guide for e-books.
    If you have access to YouTube watch Mornington Peninsula’s e-book 
    tutorial.
  • Go to Yarra Libraries’ e-book collection and download an e-book. Try reading a chapter and detail the electronic reading experience in your blog.
  • If you have time, explore Project Gutenberg. A free site for e-books.

BOLINDA

Bolinda specialise in Australian talking book content but also hold popular international titles. 
Patrons can borrow (or reserve) up to 4 items for a 2 week loan period. Items cannot be returned early.

  • Go to Bolinda and use your library card to login.
  • Browse the collections, select a title and download it in full (or in segments) to your PC. No special software needed. Unzip it and move to iTunes or Windows Media Player before transferring it your MP3 player if you have one.

ONE CLICK DIGITAL

OneClickdigital provide access to over 600 e-audiobooks. Patrons can download up to 10 titles for a 3 week loan period. Items cannot be returned early.

  • To access OneClickdigital you will need to create an account and install the Media Manager software.
